Your turret is worn. You have three options and a lot of conflicting advice. Here is the real arithmetic, with our actual 2026 price list and current used-machine listings — including the cases where replacing genuinely wins.
Straight talk first. Plenty of restoration companies tell you a new machine costs half a million dollars, so anything they charge looks cheap. That is not honest. A 1994 Pega 345 sold recently for $12,900. If sticker price were the only thing that mattered, some of you should buy the used machine.
It usually isn’t the only thing that matters — and the reason why is the whole point of this page.
A machine’s asking price is not its landed cost. These are the line items that turn a $26,000 used press into a much larger number — and they are the reason sleeving usually wins even when the sticker says otherwise.
A turret press is a 20,000–30,000 lb machine. It has to come out of one building and into yours, on air-ride, with a rigging crew at both ends.
Foundation check, levelling, power drop, air, commissioning. Then someone has to prove it actually holds tolerance before you run production on it.
Sleeving costs you 2–3 days. Sourcing, buying, shipping, rigging and commissioning a replacement machine is measured in weeks — while your parts are not getting made.
If the station configuration differs, your existing punches, dies and holders may not carry over. That inventory can be worth more than the machine.
Different control, different post. Your library of proven programs may need rewriting and re-proving part by part.
Operators who are fast on your current machine start slow on a different one. That productivity dip is real and it lasts months.

Sleeving fixes worn turret bores. It does not fix everything, and we would rather tell you that on a web page than after we have your deposit. Replace the machine if the ram, frame or drive is worn out; if the control is obsolete and the mechanicals are tired; if you genuinely need capability the machine never had — more tonnage, a bigger sheet, a laser head; or if the model is so rare that parts of any kind are unobtainable. If your machine is mechanically sound and the problem is bore wear, sleeving is the cheaper and faster answer nearly every time.
